The ECOTONE project, a research building in France, was one of the winners of the "Inventons la Métropole," the largest international urban planning and development competition in Europe.
The 51 winning projects, spread across the metropolitan area, are expected to generate 7.2 billion euros in investments over the next seven years.
The ECOTONE project will be a center of excellence in Biomimicry research.
A new concept of building between the city and nature
“Our project aims to create a connection between the city and nature in this privileged location, with a building whose role is to become the interface between these two environments. In Biology, this transitional area between two ecosystems is called an ecotone.”
ECOTONE will be one of the largest wooden buildings in Europe and a landmark for sustainability in cities. Amid the global ecological crisis, it will become a symbol for the city of Paris, its metropolis, and its ecological commitment.
A "landscape building" dedicated to Biomimetic research.
Architecture inspired by nature, which builds with excellent structural, thermal qualities, and perfect functionality, was a crucial reference for the project.
ECOTONE emphasizes the natural topography, as the building was designed to be terraced, with various terraces and courtyards to illuminate internal spaces, nestled between two hybrid hills that accommodate trees and plants integrated into the building.
Biomimicry aims to observe and draw inspiration from nature to develop new, environmentally friendly technologies and materials. From its inception, ECOTONE is biomimetic.
A new southern gateway to the Greater Paris Metropolis
The Coteau site is exceptionally located at the southern entrance to the metropolis, offering privileged views of the city of Paris and its monuments. In addition to easy access via metropolitan transport (A6 highway, RER B, future lines 14 and 15 of the Grand Paris Express), it lies at the heart of an important health and digital economy cluster.
